Massport Shore-Side Power Supply Evaluation Study
KBE assisted Massport in developing and evaluating the concept of providing shore-side power for cruise ships at-berth at the Port of Boston. A significant benefit of using shore-side power for ships at-berth is a reduction in air pollutant emissions, when compared against the option of ships providing their own power by running auxiliary engines. With shore-side power, the ship’s engines are turned off, creating no emissions and the electrical service is provided by an off-site power generation plant.
Port of Tampa, Florida
KBE completed numerous hazardous materials assignments in conjunction with the Tampa Port Authority's cruise ship terminal complex located in Tampa’s Central Business District (CBD). Tasks included contamination assessments of current and former manufacturing and stevedoring sites and Phase I and II Environmental Audits of former CSX Railroad property. KBE was also also responsible for the development of a plane for the reuse of sandblast grit as a resource for the making of cement.
